What are 1D Barcodes

A linear barcode, also known as a 1D or single line barcode is perhaps the most familiar form to consumers. People encounter this in every day life, especially as UPC codes on the items we purchase. This technology goes back over 50 years. The technology has seen some updates over the years. In addition, new applications for its use are regularly being added.

1D barcodes initially helped solve problems with inventory management tracking and price swapping from consumers, thought today some thieves have become more savvy and can produce their own barcodes. Another use is for store identification cards commonly used in supermarkets, gyms, and other loyalty programs.
